Proximity Proximity Series-Book #1 By: M.A. George Dr. Palta Capal would be a typical American career woman…if only she were human. She has found her calling in this world as a physician. It’s an ideal outlet for her compassionate spirit...and unearthly healing powers. Palta may spend her nights rereading Jane Austen novels, but she deliberately avoids pursuing her own love story. Human men — attractive as they may be — inevitably grow old and wither, leaving her to grieve in solitude. Frankly, no one has seemed worth the torment. Enter Eric Moran, the intensely attractive and enigmatic new coworker on the scene. With his quiet confidence and warm smile, he manages to draw Palta’s attention. Little does she know that he, too, holds a secret…one that will propel them both into an escalating collision of two worlds. About the Author- M. A. George is part proud mother of two adorable children, part super top secret agent…Oops, probably just lost that job. Writing is what keeps her up into the wee hours of the night. Fortunately, she has a lot of energy (Read: caffeine is her friend). She has a bit of an obsession with music (It does a fantastic job of tuning out rambunctious children while she attempts to focus). She sincerely hopes people out there enjoy reading her work as much as she enjoys writing it. And if anyone hears of work for a super top secret agent, she’s now available (Discretion guaranteed…). Why am I here?â I asked, still feeling like I was half asleep. More footsteps entered the room. âI think sheâs slept most of it off,â I heard Erik say to whoever walked in. I felt Erikâs other hand on my arm and then felt a prick from a needle. Soon I could feel the grogginess go away and the strength in my muscles return. I opened my eyes and could see normally. Erik was sitting at my side, still holding my hand. âReady to get up now?â His smile was so warm and kind that the anger I had prepared to unleash on him was quickly disarmed. Jack stood behind him, arms crossed, studying my every move. âAmazing,â he said. âBut I canât quite understand it.â Erik shot him a glance of annoyance. âUm, yes. Well, letâs get started then, shall we?â Jack said, sitting on a chair at the end of my bed. Erik sighed, disappointed in how the old man was handling things. He turned back to me. âI know it may not seem like it, but weâre actually trying to help you.â I gave him the look that I had heard that line before. âSure. You donât believe me,â he continued. âI wouldnât believe me either. Someone drugs me and I wake up in some strange place, Iâd be pretty pissed.â He flashed a slight smile. âBut hereâs the deal. We have a lot of stuff to tell you and weâd like you to tell us some stuff, too.â He paused, sensing my hesitation. âIf, and only if, you want to. Okay?â He waited for me to shake my head yes. âIâll start with the basics.â Erik let go of my hand and sat in the chair next to my bed. âI donât know if you noticed, but Iâm a little like you.â I glanced over at him, unsure of what he was trying to tell me. âYou see what I mean? Not everyone can do this.â I looked at him confused. Not do what? I thought. This guy is cute but not at all good at explaining things in clear and simple terms. âSo you think Iâm cute, huh?â I looked up to see him smiling. âAnd by the way, I think my explanation is very clear. You just need to pay attention.â âI AM paying attention!â I said loudly. And then it hit me. My voice had filled what had been a silent room. Nobody had spoken for at least a minute. Erik hadnât said anything. And yet we were having a conversation. A two-way conversationâwithout spoken words. He could read thoughts! Thatâs why he said we were alike. Prototypes of the future. May I introduce for the very first time, Samantha and Erik. The golden couple.â The golden couple? I glanced at Erik, who seemed just as confused. Rachel pushed Erik toward me, reminding him to take my arm as we walked out onto a small stage that had been set up. Bright lights shined down on us and people stood up and clapped. I peered through the light to see the room of onlookers. There were people of all nationalities. I could hear different languages and accents in the crowd. âThey are simply amazing,â I heard one woman say. âWhat a gorgeous couple,â another woman said. I noticed two ladies near the stage staring up at us. âOh, can you imagine?â the one lady said to her friend. âTheyâll be even more gorgeous. And perfect in every way,â her friend responded. I looked back to see a large banner hanging behind us. On it were the words âCelebrate The Golden Coupleâ along with the Greek letter phi. Just like the one on the necklace Allie gave me. âSamantha, turn around,â Drew scolded as he smiled at the crowd. The clapping got louder as everyone stood up. The room gradually quieted. Drew went to the microphone again. âThank you. I can see youâre all as excited as I am about these two. And I encourage you to express your enthusiasm for the project by continuing to invest in the research that will bring this technology to life in all of us.â He gave them a huge salesman grin. Then he came over next to us and said loudly and forcefully, âThis is the future, my friends! Let us celebrate it!â Title- A Chosen Destiny Series- The Samantha Project Book # 3 By- Samantha Karpinske Samantha's destiny was chosen long ago. At least that's what she's told by the people who created her. Her enhanced genes and genetic software were meant to do everything from mold her personality to pick who she falls in love with. But can destiny be changed? Ever since Samantha learned the truth about herself, she's struggled to figure out who's really in charge of her life. Can she make her own choices? Or is her future determined by her genes? Old enemies reappear and new ones emerge as Samantha and Erik use their powers to fight the people who are after them. But it's getting harder to figure out who's good and who's evil. The enemy they've been fighting may not be the one who's truly after them. Excerpt 1 âNo! Please! Not now!â I said aloud to myself. Iâd never been stopped for speeding before. And I couldnât be stopped now. GlobalLife had connections with the police. The cop would look me up in his database and Iâd be back in GlobalLifeâs custody within the hour. âCalm down.â I continued to talk to myself. âMaybe heâll just give me a ticket and leave.â I slowed the car and pulled over. My hands were shaking as I waited for the officer. Escape scenarios began playing in my head in response to the stress hormones being released in my blood. It was one of my abilities, but it wasnât always that helpful. The scenes showed me different roads to take in an attempt to get away. But the last thing I needed was a police chase. I took a deep breath to calm myself. It didnât work. As the officer approached the car, I heard his thoughts. âStupid teenage drivers. She looks to be around 16. Probably just got her license. Bet sheâs one of those rich kids from The Academy. Taking Daddyâs fancy car for a spin.â âYou were going 81 in a 55, young lady,â the officer said as I rolled down my window. âLicense and registration.â I kept my head down. âI have to get it in the glove compartment. Is that okay?â âGo ahead.â The officer let out a long sigh as he crossed his arms and stared down at me. âSo do you go to The Academy?â âUm, no. I donât know what that is.â I reached over and opened the glove compartment. It was filled with papers. I started searching for the registration. âItâs that private school. Just up a few exits from here.â The officer leaned down and poked his head through the window. âNice car you got. Is your daddy one of the execs at that research place?â âI donât know what place youâre talking about.â I found the registration and handed it to him. It had Owensâ name on it. Once the officer saw Owensâ name, I knew heâd be suspicious. Some teenage girl driving a well-known billionaireâs car? The officer didnât look at the registration. Instead he kept talking to me. âYou know, that research place that does something with genes? Itâs a big corporation. GlobalLife something.â I tried to act normal. âUm, no. Iâve never heard of that place. Is it around here?â âItâs down in White Plains. But a lot of the bigwigs who work there like to live out here in the country and send their kids to The Academy.â He paused. âLicense, please.â I froze. I didnât have a license! It was sitting in my bedroom back in Minnesota. My mind began racing so fast that I developed a massive headache. How could I be so stupid speeding like that? âLicense, please.â The officer repeated the request as he leaned down closer to me. âWhatâs the problem? You donât have one? Youâre driving without a license?â I said nothing and stared straight ahead. He sighed again. âOkay, then. Youâll need to come with me. Your folks will have to come get you at the station. Gather your things. Iâll be right back.â The officer returned to his squad car. My headache intensified as my mind tried to hear what he was thinking. But I heard nothing as he walked away. âPlease, please just let me go,â I whispered to myself as if doing so would somehow help. âIâm begging you. Let me go. Just forget this ever happened and go away.â My head now felt like it was splitting into pieces. I closed my eyes and tried harder to hear the officerâs thoughts. I still couldnât hear anything. I opened my eyes again. The bright sun made the pain in my head even worse. I checked my mirror to see if the officer was still in his car. But the police car was no longer behind me. I looked out the front window and noticed an expensive black car with dark tinted windows. Had another car been pulled over? Or did the car belong to someone from GlobalLife? I wasnât sure what was going on, but I knew this wasnât going to end well. I decided I had to at least try to escape. I reached down to turn the keys in the ignition, but something didnât look right. Then I noticed the dashboard was different. It had all kinds of equipment attached to it. I quickly realized that I was sitting in the front seat of the police car. The black car in front of me was the one Iâd been driving. How did I get in the police car? I looked to my left and caught a glimpse of myself in the side mirror. But it wasnât me! It was the officer! But nothing is free in the Underverse. For travelling to the most dangerous places in the Underverse, Balthazar asks Death for control of the Crossroads. Arianne was ready to pay Death’s price to save Niko. She was ready to be blind with no memory of the boy she loves. Instead, she wakes up in a strange room, still able to see and with Niko in a deep sleep. She agrees to work with Balthazar on the condition: Death needs to wake Niko. But Arianne soon finds out that helping the bad guy means having to do lots of bad things. excerpt “I’m guessing you’re a regular here.” Balthazar had his eyes closed when he answered, “Back in the day. All work and no play and all that. Solara’s not so bad, if you take away her tendency to eat her lovers.” Arianne dropped the rose and blinked. Then she shrugged. “Can’t say I didn’t see that one coming. But you survived.” “Only because I wasn’t stupid enough to stay the night. Niko, on the other hand…” Balthazar stopped suddenly, like he'd caught himself about to say something. “Niko what?” Arianne’s voice grew very soft. Her chest deflated. When Balthazar didn’t say anything, she rephrased her question, “What about Niko?” Balthazar opened one eye to look at her before he grimaced. “Slip of the tongue. Forget about it.” Arianne rushed the couch and thumped Balthazar’s chest, completely forgetting he didn’t like to be touched. “Don’t growl at me,” she said, but took a step back just in case. Those fangs did look like they could cause some serious hurt if they sank into her skin. “Just finish what you already started and I’ll shut up about it.” Balthazar tsked before he closed his eyes again and settled back into the couch like he hadn’t been ready to pounce a second ago. He breathed in deeply then exhaled slowly. Arianne waited, twisting her fingers together. “There are some things you’re better off not knowing, little girl,” he finally said. “I’m not a little girl anymore, Balthazar. If it’s about Niko then I have the right to know.” He opened his eyes and locked gazes with her. “No, actually you don’t.” “I need to know.” A shiver ran down Arianne’s back by the way he stared at her, like he was measuring her worth. She steeled herself. Whatever he had to say about Niko she would accept without judging. She promised herself that. Balthazar moved his gaze from her to the ceiling before he closed his eyes again. “Niko frequented this place as much as I did. In fact, we even came together once in a while.” Arianne’s heart fell into a heap in her stomach. Then she picked the poor thing up and put it back into her chest. She couldn’t judge. Niko was a guy. A Reaper who’d lived countless lifetimes. If he came here to…Arianne couldn’t let herself think about it. “Don’t obsess, Arianne,” Balthazar said in a grumbly voice, like he forced himself to speak. “Niko’s done far worse things than be at a whorehouse…” “What do you mean ‘worse things’?” His lower lip jutted out. “I’d rather not say. If you think he’s a good guy, then maybe he is now. I haven’t seen him since I got banished to the Nethers. Maybe he’s changed.” “Are you actually trying to comfort me, Balthazar?” Arianne put together her best “aww” face. “Don’t get all mushy on me,” he barked, but his words didn’t have the same bite. “I’m more the bang ‘em then leave ‘em type.” About the Author When Kate Evangelista was told she had a knack for writing stories, she did
the next best thing: entered medical school. After realizing she wasn't going to be the next Doogie Howser, M.D., Kate wandered into the Literature department of her university and never looked back. Today, she is in possession of a piece of paper that says to the world she owns a Literature degree. To make matters worse, she took Master's courses in creative writing. Cole and Violet knew it wouldn’t be easy. They knew their relationship would take work. But when the press finds out about Violet Lynn’s newest boyfriend, they start digging. And when his past comes to light, exposing all of his family’s secrets, their relationship begins to fray. Country Music’s Golden Boy, Jaxon Hunter, has it all, except the girl that got away. What she saw, she really didn’t. What she thought happened, he allowed her to believe for reasons so insane that no one would ever have believed him if he had confessed. But now that everything’s out in the open, he’s going to do his damndest to convince her that he’s the only one for her. Now Violet must choose between Jaxon— her first love and the guy she thought had cheated on her—and Cole—the guy who helped her heal and love again. Or will one of them make the decision for her? Author’s Favorite Quotes from Only For You and Why By Marquita Valentine “Instead of crying, I smile wider. Instead of falling to my knees, I dance around on stage while launching into my next set. Instead of living with love, I’m learning to live on my own. Without love.” ~ Violet Rae I chose this quote because it pretty much encapsulates the mood of the opening scene in ONLY FOR YOU “These are the times I can do no more than stare at her, because my thoughts have all piled up in my head, like a traffic jam on I-85. Only thing I can make out is a flashing sign that says, “Hot Woman ahead. Will turn your brain to mush for the next million miles.” ~ Cole I chose this quote, because while it pretty much sums up every man when his mind turns to mush, it especially reveals how much Rae affects Cole’s entire thought process. “I’d envisioned a lifetime with Violet, with kids and everything that comes with being married. But I blew all that to hell, with one not-so-simple decision.” ~ Jaxon Hunter I chose this, because I actually give Jaxon’s POV in Only For You. I thought it was important to show his side of things…well, most of it. “Once all those girls get a look at him, he’ll be pinned on Pinterest Boards faster than I can say Man Candy.” ~Violet Rae I chose this scene, because I feel like this gives a little glimpse into what they as a couple can expect now that their relationship is out in the open. “Once the thought of a guy like Cole or Jaxon being jealous would have thrilled me down to my toes, but now, it only makes my heart ache. Jealousy hurts—it pinches at your heart until all the love bleeds out and nothing’s left but resentment and anger.” ~ Violet Rae I chose this because I felt like this shows how much Rae has grown since her relationship with Jaxon, and how much jealous can hurt us all. “Then she pats me on the cheek, the most physical contact I’ve had from her in years, and the little boy inside of me wants to go after her. Wants to hug her and ask her why. But the man I’ve become won’t let him, because neither of us will like her answer.” ~ Cole I chose this because it breaks my heart when I think about the relationship Cole desperately wants with his mother, yet will never have. “As soon as we touch, something comes over me. It’s like I can feel her, everywhere. I want this girl, but I can’t have her. Mainly, because the girl I’m supposed to want is standing right beside her, wishing she were back in the arms of the guy she really loves. But all I see is Bliss Davenport.”~ Jaxon Hunter on the first time he meets Bliss. I chose this, because I love it when a plan DOESN’T come together. Excerpt Cole and Violet Rae love scene “I’m not ready for this to be over, yet.” Flipping her over, I pin Rae to the bed, fastening my mouth to hers. She’s as hungry for me as I am for her. Our tongues tangle, my hips grinding into hers so hard that I’m sure she’ll have bruises or be sore tomorrow, but she doesn’t stop me, and I’m sure as hell not stopping. I need this. I need her. Harder and faster, I pound into her. She widens her thighs, her hands going to my ass. She sinks her nails into my skin and I tear my mouth away, letting out a ragged groan. She arches her back, her tits thrusting out, and I take one in my mouth, biting the tip of her nipple. She squeals, like I knew she would. “Oh God, Cole.” “Not yet, baby.” “Please.” Her hands slip between us. I grab her wrist and pin it to the bed, along with the other one, in case she gets any ideas. “Patience.” I slow my furious pace, rolling my hips, until sweat beads on my upper lip. Her skin is flushed and she is writhing under me, lost in the sensation that only I can do to her. A dark thought flashes in my brain. “Did Jaxon ever do this to you?” Her pretty eyes blink up at me, unfocused and full of desire. They sharpen. “Cole, this isn’t the time—” I stop moving. “Answer me.” About the Author New York Times Bestselling Author, Marquita Valentine, writes sexy heroes that make you swoon and sassy heroines that make you laugh. Colton stole my heart. He wasn't supposed to, and I sure as hell didn't want him to, but he crashed into my life, ignited feelings within me that I thought had died forever, and fueled a passion that I never knew could exist. Rylee fell out of that damn storage closet and into my life. Now I don't think I'll ever be the same. She's seen glimpses of the darkness within me, and yet she's still here. Still fighting for me. She is without a doubt the saint, and I am most definitely the sinner. How is it the one thing neither of us wanted—neither of us anticipated that fateful night—has us fighting so hard to keep? He steals my breath, stops my heart, and brings me back to life again all in a split second of time. But how can I love a man who won't let me in? Who continually pushes me away to prevent me from seeing the damaged secrets in his past? My heart has fallen, but patience and forgiveness can only go so far. How can I desire a woman who unnerves me, defies me, and forces me to see that in the deep, black abyss of my soul there's someone worthy of her love? A place and person I swore I'd never be again. Her selfless heart and sexy body deserve so much more than I'll ever be capable of giving her. I know I can't be what she needs, so why can't I just let her go? We are driven by need and fueled with desire, but is that enough for us to crash into love? Five Favorite Quotes from Fueled By K. Bromberg Besides the (2) obvious ones of “Spiderman. Batman. Superman. Ironman” and “I race you,” some of my favorite quotes are: * She’s my motherfucking checkered flag. * His chest heaves and his jaw clenches as he looks at me with such intensity that I am lost to him. The outside world ceases to exist in this moment as I stand here exposed and unbidden. I am stripped physically and emotionally. I have never been more his. * I tug on her hand and pull her against me, needing to feel her. The soothing balm to my aching soul. She lands solidly against me, and I swear more than our bodies jolt. My fucking heart does too. It jolts, trips, falls, tumbles, freefalls—no that’s not it—it crashes into that foreign fucking feeling pulsing through me. * One condition? I just handed her my balls on a platter in exchange for the whip to her pussy and she’s going to add a condition? Fucking women. * We are passionate, fiery, unyielding, and intense when we’re together. In the bedroom, that leads to immeasurable chemistry; in the relationship arena, that leads to disaster. And as heavenly as it would be to contain Colton to the bedroom so he could have his way with me over and over, that’s just not realistic. Excerpt “You’re mine now. I’m the only one allowed to give you pleasure.” Before I can think of a witty retort, Colton’s mouth is on mine again, his tongue delving between my lips, his body pushing me backwards so my hips hit the edge of the conference table. He presses me to sit down, nudging my legs apart with his knee, and steps in between them. I am now at a height disadvantage to him, and he leans over and cups my cheeks in his hands, his tongue soothing over where he just nipped my bottom lip. I keen with need as he continues his tantalizing assault on my mouth and all sense of coherence is lost. In an unexpected move, he pulls his face back, his hands still framing my cheeks in possession, and stares at me. His eyes swim with emotion as his jaw clenches from unspoken words. We stare at each other and pant from the need that is driving every action and subsequent reaction. Feelings I want to confess die on my lips as the pad of his thumb reaches over to graze them tenderly. Something has shifted between us, and I can’t put my finger on it, but the look in his eyes tells me all I need to know: He wants me as much as I want him. Any doubts of mine that he wants another vanish with this singular look. About the Author K. Bromberg was born and raised in Southern California.
