Title: Life For Rent By: Emmie Lou Kates Published: May 13th, 2013 Genre-New Adult Romance Links- Amazon- Barnes & Noble- http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/life-for-rent-emmie-lou-kates/1115446356?ean=2940044540 521 Smashwords- http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/315925 Excerpt The loud roar of a tractor in the lane, and then an incessant tooting of a horn abruptly cut her daydreams short. She jumped up and looked over the garden fence to the road below. There was the huge red machine, inches behind her fiesta, inside sat a large dark haired man scowling in the cab. She opened the gate and ran down the path, smiling she started to make apologetic noises that dried in her throat as he jumped out of the cab and roared at her. âWhat the fuck do you think you are doing parking in the middle of the lane?â If he had not put her back up with his foul mouthed tirade, she may have had time to notice how his lean muscular body was bursting from the open shirt roughly tucked into fading jeans that covered strong, long legs. She would have admired his square jaw and high cheekbones covered by skin tanned from years working outside, or the way he tossed his unruly dark hair away from his deep blue eyes with a flick of his head. But no, all she could see was some uncouth local, bad mouthing her because she had the audacity to park her car outside her cottage. She glared back at him and replied with ice cool politeness. âThis is a private lane and I have every right to park my car outside my propertyâ. There that told him. He walked towards her, his six foot two frame towering over her and continued to glare. âIf you had bothered to read your property documents thoroughly, you would have seen that my farm has a right of way down this lane to the field at the end, so you will have to park your car on the grass vergeâ. She glared back, her temper rising, âWell, if you had knocked on my door and asked politely I might have been of a mind to move it, but as you donât appear to have a polite bone in your body you can whistle palâ. And with that she turned on her heel and marched back up the path to her cottage, slamming the gate shut she shot inside before he could reply. Liam jumped down from his tractor and strode across the yard towards the farmhouse, his mind was in turmoil and he took no notice of his labs bouncing around to welcome him back. He went straight to the fridge, grabbed a bottle of bud, twisted off the top and took a long swig, letting the ice cold beer slide down his throat. He walked through to the living room and slumped down into his favourite old armchair. What the hell was going on? He couldnât understand how this girl had got under his skin so quickly. But he could still feel the pain as his insides had twisted, at the sight of her locked in the arms of Rory down on the beach. He ran one hand through his unruly hair as he tried to make sense of what had happened. He closed his eyes and let out a long breath, remembering the vow he made as he stood beside the graves of his family. He was determined to keep the farm going and continue the good work his father and brother had started. There was no way he would ever open himself up to having anyone else grow so close to him, only to lose them. He knew he would not be able to bear what was left of his heart being torn apart. But as he sat there, he couldnât stop the images of Beth on the beach, her shrieks of laughter as she was pushed into the water and oh the sight of her in that wet top. He felt his jeans tighten as his body responded to the images and he groaned in frustration. Maybe celibacy wasnât the way to go, perhaps all he needed was a night of meaningless sex to lighten his mood and get her out of his brain. Liam woke the next morning with Beth still fast asleep on top of him. To his dismay he was sporting a major hard on and cursed his anatomy under his breath. He tried to shift position to ease the tightness of his jeans, but Beth squirmed on top of him, which just made matters worse. âShit!â He muttered as he took as sharp intake of breath. He attempted to take his mind off the beautiful redhead draped over him, by going over what jobs he needed to get done that dayâ¦.speak to Joe about the top field, call the farm supplies to order fertiliserâ¦.. Beth sighed in her sleep and her warm breath tickled his neck. Nope that wasnât going to work. He cringed at the thought of Beths reaction to waking up on top of him in his present condition, so tried counting in his head. Beth groaned as she started to wake up, she didnât remember her mattress being this uncomfortable, perhaps her duvet had got caught underneath her. She pushed up with her hands and wiggled her hips trying to dislodge the lump, and was startled by a small yelp by her ear. She opened one eye and found herself staring into those deep blue eyes ofâ¦.. âLiam?â She gasped trying to push herself up further. âDonât move!â Growled Liam. âWh.. what? Why?â She asked opening both eyes. As she focussed on Liamâs face she noticed that he seemed to be in pain, his face was contorted and his cheeks flushed. He watched as she stared at him in confusion, and saw the flush creep up her cheeks as realisation dawned and leapt off him. Groaning in pain he grabbed her hand before she could storm off. âHey! Donât get the wrong idea. I woke up like this, it doesnât mean anything.â She glared at him whilst trying to pull her hand out of his strong grip. âWell thatâs reassuring.â She snapped. He took in her indignant scowl and made what could be a rash decision, but hey, he was damned whatever he did or said. Using his superior strength, he pulled her back on top of him a locked his lips on hers. Can you provide us with a short history/bio on each of the main characters? About The Author Self confessed hopeless romantic, still looking for my happy ever after. Until then I write about them instead. You can find me at http://emmieloukates.wordpress.com. Twitter- https://twitter.com/EmmieLouKates My Review 5 Star First I just wanted to say that this is the first book that I read from this author, and I felt in love with it, I couldnât put the book down and I couldnât stop giggling , I really had fun reading this book and I really enjoy it this book just made me want to read more couldnât get enough. I love the characters of this story and love it how each character have their own unique way. I love the main characters Beth and Liam I love how they had the chemistry from the starts, and love it how they get alone with each other, and how they both trust one another. love how Beth and Liam met each other for the first time, I have to say I really was laughing while reading this part, Beth had just finish moving in to the cottage that she is renting, and she is unpacking her boxes when she hear a tractor pulling up behind her car, thatâs when she get to see Liam, now Liam is not really happy and he ends up telling Beth to move her car and not to block the rode, he said it with such an attitude and that just got Beth angry, Beth turned around and gave Liam a peace of her mind and let him with his mouth hanging open, I just love it when they both go at it and argue back and forth, but thatâs how it is I love how they end up falling in love with each other. I love the character of Beth, she is always running away from love, and form life and relationship. She had a bad experience when she was just fourteen years old, and that made her be the way she is now, even though she's being through so much she always with a smile on her face and love hear attitude. Love the character of Liam now what cant I say about him. Liam was always young and free and always being single. Liam also being through so much after a horrible tragic he change a lot that the only thing that he is caring for is trying to keep the family farm going. Love his attitude the one that he always walking straight up and not give a crap of what other thinks of Liam is such a sweetheart. I want to thank author Emmie Lou Kates for introducing me to this amazing characters and this awesome book, canât wait to read more of your books and I hope that you get to enjoy and love this story as much as I did. I've waitressed, styled hair, answered phones and, most recently, worked full time as mom to my two beautiful little boys. Then there was this book... Everyone and their brother started talking about this book series titled Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James. I didn't really pay attention to the craze at first, since I wasn't a big reader- okay, I didn't read at all. But curiosity got the best of me, so I downloaded it to my kindle.â¨I was immediately hooked. I read the whole series in three days. Yes, three books in three days. I kept finding all these great books that I HAD to read (just ask my credit card!). Then I started hearing voices. Voices that turned into stories; stories that were begging to get out of my head. I started writing them down on scraps of paper. Then I transferred them to my computer. Before I knew it, Planning on Forever was born. The voices in my head are still talking, so I'm still writing. It sounds even better live than it does on the recording.” She stood, smoothing the wrinkles from her black tunic top, and walked over to me, gesturing at my Les Paul. “How the hell do you do that?” “Bullet’s pretty fast with his fingers.” Sager chuckled. “Ah, so that’s how you got the nickname.” Lace smiled. “Faster than a bullet on the frets, huh?” “Uh, sort of.” King shoved Sager. “Even faster to get a woman off. One time he even…” “Shut it.” I cut in and glared at King. Lace’s smile warbled, but she managed to right it. “What?” King shrugged. “It’s Lace. It ain't like she never heard that shit before.” About the Author- Michelle Mankin is a young/new adult romance writer as well as a self-proclaimed giant…inside her own mind. Links About the Author Writing wasn't something Nicki set out to do; it just sort of happened when she realized writing reports was by far her favorite part of her investment consulting position. She traded stock allocation and diversification for story arcs and dialogue and now weaves her creative writing time in with the other activities of her busy life with her family in the Chicago suburbs. Nicki writes with two goals in mind: #1 to keep the characters realistic, even when their circumstances are anything but, and #2 to make the reader feel. Her published works include Three Daves, a light-hearted romantic romp through a 1980s college campus, Divine Temptation, a romantic novel of angelic proportions, and short stories âSwayâ (available as a single), âI Donât Do Valentineâs Dayâ (part of A Valentine Anthology), and âImpressionism 101â (included in the debut issue of Insatiable: The Magazine of Paranormal Desire).
